About the Society

The Society:
The Guildford United Reformed Church Music Society was formed in 1992 to make music of a high standard widely available.

Besides engaging well-established artists, we take much pleasure in encouraging the many talented young musicians of today. We also wish to foster the love of, and interest in, music among children.

Friends
(Membership):
Following discussion at our recent AGM we have decided to extend our membership by introducing the concept of Friends of Guildford URC Music Society.  We invite members, who have supported us so loyally over many years, and members of our much-valued audience, to become Friends.  A donation of £12 a year (or more, if you feel able) will entitle you to a £1 discount on each ticketed event except our charity concert, and an invitation to our special Friends‘ Event.  This offers an opportunity to meet our Committee and other supporters informally, with refreshments, and music provided by talented local young people.

We would also be delighted if you felt able to help occasionally with such things as serving refreshments during concerts, distributing posters, helping at the door and Committee work.  If this appeals to you, please complete the form and hand to one of our Committee members.

For more information contact Jean Burge.

Mailing List:
We have a free mailing list and would be pleased to add your name and address to ensure you receive up-to-date information about our concerts. For details contact Gillian Lloyd.

XY Strings:
XY Strings, so-called because it used to be run by Guildford YMCA, is now supported by Guildford United Reformed church, and particularly by the church's Music Scoiety, which has a special interest in promoting music-making by young people.  We are very grateful to the church for the use of its premises, in which we meet on Tuesday evenings in term time from 6:15-7:15.  XY is essentially a teaching group for junior string players (of all ages!) of approximate standard Grades 2-5, with some very welcome help from a number of more experienced players.  New members are always welcome;  just use the Contact Form. We occasionally play in local music festivals, in July 2011 gave  our second full-scale concert in aid of the GURC Malawi Education Project.
