Martyna Jatkauskaite

Born in Kaunas, Lithuania, Martyna Jatkauskaite had become recognised as one of the leading Lithuanian pianists from the younger generation. Winner of several important international competitions, Jatkauskaite has consistently impressed critics with both her technical skills and masterly sense of interpretation in a broad range of repertory that takes in works by Scarlatti, Mozart,Beethoven, Schumann, Chopin, Debussy, Rachmaninov, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, and many others.

Martyna’s success in over twenty international piano competitions, prizes and awards includes 1st Prize at the “Acquaviva delle Fonti -Giovanni Colafemmina” International Piano Competition in Italy, 2014; 1st Prize at the 'Giorgios Thymis' International Piano Competition in Greece 2011, Guildhall School’s most prestigious award – the Gold Medal - previously won by such artists as Jacqueline Du Pre and Bryn Terfel and in the same year Martyna has been featured as New Talent in the Classical FM magazine (U.K.)

Martyna performed in Great Britain, Italy, Netherlands, Germany, France, Greece, Spain and Japan giving recitals and concerto performances in many important venues throughout the world including London’s Wigmore Hall; Cadogan Hall; Barbican hall Sala Verdi Milan; Megaron Thessaloniki Greece; Fazioli Hall Italy; As a recipient of Philharmonia Orchestra/ Martin Music Scholarship Martyna gave recitals in Royal Festival Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall/Purcell Room (Southbank Centre, London) Among the orchestras with which she has appeared in concert are the London Festival Orchestra, Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, Lithuania Chamber Orchestra, Kaunas Symphony Orchestra, Guildhall Symphony Orchestra, Mihail Jora Bacau Orchetra, working with conductors such as Dirk Kaftan; Vasily Petrenko; Ross Pople, Peter Stark Modestas Pitrenas; , Andreas Tselikas; Juozas Domarkas, Ovidiu Balan; Saulius Sondeckis; Espen Selvik among others. Martyna’s performances has been featured on Lithuanian National Television and Radio; and RWE Radio together with Sudwestfallen Philharmonic Orchestra, Germany.

Martyna began to play the piano at the age of five, and made her official debut at the age of 11 performing Bach’s Concerto in F minor, with the Kaunas Chamber Orchestra. In 2005, Martyna was awarded the prestigious Baltic State Scholarship to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London with Professor Joan Havill where she completed her Masters Degree in Music Performance with Distinction.

Jatkauskaite has been awarded the Overall Winner of the Tunbridge Wells International Young Concert Artists Competition in England, in addition to earlier first prizes at the “Roma 2000” in Italy, "Konzerteum” in Greece, “Vainiunas” International Piano Competition in Vilnius, “Pro-Piano Romania” in Bucharest, prize winner at "Citta di Cantu" competition for Piano and Orchestra, Karl Cherni Competition, Prague, “La Muse” International Piano Competition in Italy, and Dudley International Piano Competition in U.K.

An active chamber musician, Martyna is a member of Oskar Piano Duo and Botticelli Piano Quartet. The Oskar Duo together with french pianist Thomas Besnard has been awarded 1st Prize at the Roma International Piano competition “F.Chopin” in Italy. As a result their performances were broadcasted on Italian National Television and the Vatican Radio. The success in Italy draw international attention and since then the duo has given recitals in France, Italy and U.K.

Martyna lives with her husband composer Mihali Paleologou in Berlin.
